Living the adventure

Life is an adventure. At least that is the way I have come to look at life. We can let it be about the circumstances around us or the people around us. We can choose our reaction. It is always easier to choose the emotion of the moment but there are better choices.

The first and best adventure we can live is the adventure of God. When we put God first, the rest of life falls into place.

Life is an adventure. We go from one thing to the next. We could think we go from one dreary boring job to the next without any choice. Or we can choose to do the necessary to get to the adventure. Usually there is adventure in everything we do. Something to be learned, understood, made better or accomplished. Which one of those will we do today.

The Beginning

In July of 2021 I retired. That was not the end of life but it did offer a new beginning. On July 12 we started a trip that would take 54 days mostly in a tent. We would camp out all around the Olympic National Park and then proceed down the Washington coast looking at light houses. We would continue on into Oregon to see their lighthouses and end our trip at the Jedidiah Smith State Park in California. We would end there because it would be September and we were in a tent after all.

Here are our thoughts just before the trip.

“Right now everything is packing and getting ready, trying to imagine all the impossible things that might come up. How do you prepare for a place you have never been? The easy way is to look at reports from other people who have been there before. We can look at the weather forecast and see what it will be for the next few days. Advertising and emails from parks and attractions also gives us a hint of what is about to happen. We try to imagine ourselves there but some things are hard to imagine. We just plan the best we can and then be as flexible as we can and believe that it will be fun because we decide now, no matter what, it will be fun. “
